’Twas the Season in Heber-Overgaard

’Twas the season in Heber-Overgaard, crisp winter and pine,
Where neighbors help neighbors, a strong mountain line.
HOCRN kept moving, all volunteers on call,
Serving the community, no task was too small.

The thrift store was busy, each rack and each shelf,
Funding programs with care, built by hands, not by wealth.
Every sale, every bargain, each donated thing—
Helps a real local family with support we can bring.

The GROWtogether Garden, laid neat row by row,
Taught classes, shared tools, helped new gardeners grow.
A garden for seniors, one laid out for school—
Learning food from the soil is a valuable tool.
Next season it moves to Mountain Meadows out back,
With many volunteers out tending the stack.

The shuttle kept rolling most days of the week,
From clinics to shopping for the help people seek.
Tuesdays and Thursdays served locals nearby,
Mon/Wed/Fri took riders where they needed to fly—
Appointments at Summit, Barnett Delaney too,
And errands in town that folks needed to do.

Graduates walked proudly, diplomas held high,
Scholarships from the town helped their futures apply.
June brought Resource Day beneath tall timber shade,
Where nonprofits and agencies shared what they made.

The Senior Angel Tree filled tags one by one,
Nearly sixty were served when the project was done.
Adopt-a-Family joined schools shoulder to shoulder,
Ensuring gifts reached homes as days all grew colder.
The Bison Ranch HOA made a strong, steady drive,
So Christmas stays bright for each local kid’s life.

The help line stayed open, both day and late night,
Working close with first responders to get things right.
Found help to fix heaters when cold winds would blow,
Delivered split firewood through patches of snow.
Unlocked doors at midnight when keys weren’t around,
Found a Thanksgiving table where welcome was found.
Guided folks toward programs and plans they could trust,
Shared community info when answers were a must.

We donate each month to support where we can—
Food bank, Mustangs, and the senior breakfast plan.

RaiseTheFlag250 is underway, standing tall,
With a large flag and pole to be seen over all.
A 40 by 80 in the wind will appear,
On a 155-foot pole—American and clear.

And everything listed, each effort and drive,
Exists thanks to volunteers keeping this work alive.
The drivers, the gardeners, the teams sorting clothes,
The ones who say yes when a real need arose.

So thanks to the volunteers for the work that you do,
For another strong year, steady, humble, and true.
Merry Christmas to all, and here’s what we’ll say—
Let’s keep showing up, helping neighbors each day.

From all of us here at HOCRN, thank you for all of your support, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year!
